UNICA: New record set for bioweekly hydrous ethanol production

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has released sugarcane milling and ethanol production data for the first half of July, reporting ethanol production was up 26.24 percent when compared to the same period of last year.
According to UNICA, sugarcane mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 44.88 million metric tons of sugarcane during the first half of July, down 6.5 percent when compared to the same period of 2017.

While sugar production fell by 23.3 percent, ethanol production increased by 26.4 percent, reaching 2.39 billion liters (631.37 million gallons). The production of hydrous ethanol reached 1.6 billion liters, up 52.71 percent when compared the same period of last year and setting a new record for bioweekly production. The production of anhydrous ethanol reached 790.74 million liters during the first half of July, down 6.53 percent from the same period of 2017.
Since the beginning of the current harvest, which began in April, a total of 13.45 billion liters of ethanol has been produced, including 4.08 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol and 9.37 billion liters of hydrous ethanol.
During the first half of July, corn ethanol production reached 24.68 million liters. Since April 1, approximately 187.8 million liters of corn ethanol has been produced, up 163 percent when compared to the same period of last year.

Units in the south-central region sold 1.2 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of July, up 16.69 percent when compared to the same period of last year. Of that 1.2 billion liters, approximately 11.1 billion liters were sold domestically, with 91.55 million destined for export. Of the 11.1 billion liters sold domestically, 767.48 was hydrous ethanol, up 39.46 percent when compared to the first half of July 2017, and 341.23 million liters was anhydrous ethanol, down from 407.08 million liters during the same period of last year.
Since the beginning of the current season, mills in the south-central region have sold 7.74 billion liters of ethanol, with 7.38 billion liters sold domestically and 351.57 million liters exported.
