UNICA publishes sugarcane harvest, ethanol production update

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane association, recently released a crop update for the second half of September, noting 42.26 million tons of sugarcane were processed in the south-central region of the country during the period, with production of sugar reaching 2.95 million tons and ethanol production reaching 1.81 billion liters (478.15 million gallons), including 809.39 million liters of anhydrous ethanol and 997.63 million liters of hydrous ethanol.

Since the beginning of April, 473.55 million tons of sugarcane have been processed. So far this season, sugar production has reached 27.76 million tons, with ethanol production reaching 19.87 billion liters, including 8.26 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol and 11.61 billion liters of hydrous ethanol. According to UNICA, 13 mills had closed for the season by the end of September.

Sales of ethanol by mills in the south-central region reached 2.32 billion liters in September, with 105.81 million liters designed for export and 2.21 billion liters sold into the domestic market. In the domestic market, traded monthly volumes of anhydrous ethanol reached 831.9 million liters, while hydrous sales reached 1.38 billion liters.
