USDA: April corn use for ethanol up year-over-year

The USDA recently released its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report for June, reporting that corn consumed for fuel alcohol reached 445 million bushels in April, down 6 percent from March but up 3 percent from April 2017. Corn consumed in April for dry milling fuel production and wet milling fuel production was 91.1 percent and 8.9 percent, respectively.
Sorghum consumed for fuel alcohol production reached 2.64 million hundredweight (cwt) (296.02 million pounds) in April, up from 2.23 million cwt in March but down from 5.5 million cwt in April 2017.

At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production reached 135,883 tons, down from 145,808 tons in March, but up from 118,242 tons in April 2017. Corn oil production reached 144,813 tons, down from 148,490 tons in March, but up from 132,804 tons the previous April. Distillers dried grains production reached 372,741 tons, down from 417,190 tons in March and 437,914 tons in April 2017. Distillers dried grains with solubles production reached 1.83 million tons, down from 1.94 million tons in March, but up from 1.75 million tons in April of the previous year. Distillers wet grains production reached 1.39 million tons, down from 1.42 million tons in March, but up from 1.3 million tons in April 2017. Modified distillers wet grains production reached 485,841 tons in April, down from 509,088 tons in March, but up from 431,983 tons in April 2017.
At wet mills, corn germ meal production reached 60,089 tons, up from 58,359 tons in March, but down slightly from 60,519 tons in April 2017. Corn gluten feed production reached 304,716 tons, down from 319,757 tons in March and 346,377 tons in April of the previous year. Corn gluten meal production reached 91,427 tons in April, down from 97,157 tons in March, but up from 90,133 tons in April 2017. Wet corn gluten feed production reached 254,638 tons, down from 276,350 tons in March and 283,835 tons in April 2017.

At dry and wet mills, carbon dioxide captured reached 216,215 tons, up from 210,775 tons in March and 200,431 tons in April 2017.

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service on June 30 released its annual Acreage report, estimating that 83.4 million acres of soybeans have been planted in the U.S. this year, down 4% when compared to 2024.
