The USDA has released the January edition of its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report, announcing corn use for fuel alcohol production was up in November.

Approximately 476 million bushels of corn was consumed for fuel alcohol production in November, up 1 percent from October and up 5 percent when compared to November 2016. Corn consumed in November for dry milling fuel production and wet milling fuel production was 90.2 percent and 9.78 percent, respectively.

In addition, 2.883 million hundredweight (cwt) (161,448 tons) of grain sorghum was consumed for fuel alcohol production in November, up from 2.419 million cwt in October, but down from 4.914 million cwt in November 2016.

At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production reached 133,982 tons in November, down from 136,200 tons in October, but up from 126,968 tons in November 2016. Coil oil production reached 175,219 tons, up from 139,314 tons in October and 147,336 tons during the same month of the previous year. Distillers dried grains production fell to 430,224 tons, down from 449,199 tons in October, but up from 423,892 tons in November 2016. Distillers dried grains with solubles production reached nearly 2 million tons, up from 1.96 tons in October and up slightly when compared to November of the previous year. Distillers wet grains production reached 1.38 million tons, up from 1.34 million tons in October and 1.28 million tons in November 2016. Modified distillers wet grains production reached 476,566 tons, up from 443,221 tons in October and 389,038 tons during the same month of the previous year.

At wet mills, corn germ meal production reached 95,999 tons, up from 90,646 tons in October and 63,635 tons in November 2016. Corn gluten feed production fell to 311,957 tons in October, but up from 309,305 tons in November of the previous year. Corn gluten meal production fell to 90,366 tons, down from 93,463 tons in October, but up from 84,092 tons in November 2016. Wet corn gluten feed production reached 303,209 tons, up slightly from 302,618 tons in October, but down from 326,550 tons in November 2016.

At dry and wet mills, carbon dioxide captured fell to 207,728 tons, down from 225,546 tons in October and 213,244 tons in November 2016.
