USDA: US biodiesel exports at 18,718 metric tons in October, imports at 70,228.9 metric tons

The U.S. exported 18,718 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 or greater in October, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on Dec. 5. Biodiesel imports reached 70,228.9 metric tons for the month. 

The 18,718 metric tons of biodiesel exported reported for October was down when compared to both the 67,675.3 metric tons exported in September and the 63,518.4 metric tons exported in October 2023. 

The U.S. exported biodiesel to approximately five countries in October. Canada was the top destination for U.S. biodiesel exports in October at 11,614.9 metric tons, followed by Peru at 6,290.4 metric tons and Germany at 532.8 metric tons.

The value of U.S. biodiesel exports fell to $18.1 million in October, down from $99.95 million the previous month and $116.56 million in October of last year. 

Total biodiesel exports for the first 10 months of 2024 reached 549,141.2 metric tons at a value of $761.27 million, compared to 736,406 metric tons exported during the same period of last year at a value of $1.34 billion. 

The 70,228.9 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 or greater imported in October was down from both the 88,055.9 metric tons imported in September and the 165,370.9 metric tons imported in October of last year.

The U.S. imported biodiesel from approximately five countries in October. Canada was the top source of U.S. biodiesel imports at 40,108.2 metric tons, followed by Germany at 30,001.69 metric tons and France at 56.9 metric tons. 

Total U.S. biodiesel imports for the first 10 months of this year reached 1.22 million metric tons at a value of $1.67 billion, compared to 1.38 million metric tons imported during the same period of last year at a value of $2.33 billion.
