USDA: US biodiesel exports at 71,012 metric tons in May, imports at 127,105 metric tons

The U.S. exported 71,012 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 and greater in May, according to date released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on July 3. Biodiesel imports reached 127,104.7 metric tons for the month.

The 71,012 metric tons of biodiesel exported in May was up when compared to the 60,273.9 metric tons exported the previous month, but down from the 106,825.3 metric tons exported in May 2023.

The U.S. exported biodiesel to three countries in May. Canada was the top destination for U.S. biodiesel exports at 66,259.2 metric tons, followed by Peru at 4,691.1 metric tons and Indonesia at 61.6 metric tons. 

The value of U.S. biodiesel exports reached $97.16 million in May, down from both $84.58 million in April and $197.5 million in May of last year.

Total biodiesel exports for the first five months of 2024 reached 224,435.7 metric tons at a value of $314.45 million, compared to 348,738.6 metric tons exported during the same period of 2023 at a value of $604.67 million.

The 127,104.7 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 and greater imported in May was down when compared to the 207,932.6 metric tons imported in April, but up from the 119,073.4 metric tons imported in May of last year. 

The U.S. imported biodiesel from approximately eight countries in May. Canada was the top source of U.S. biodiesel imports at 30,761.2 metric tons, followed by Spain at 28,110.6 metric tons and Germany at 27,558.6 metric tons.

The value of U.S. biodiesel imports reached $165.18 million in May, down from $289.11 million in April and $196.7 million in May of last year.

Total U.S. biodiesel imports for the first five months of this year reached 799,380.1 metric tons at a value of $1.11 billion, compared to 656,153.8 metric tons imported during the same period of last year at a value of $1.17 billion.
