The U.S. exported 55,131.8 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 or greater in December, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on Feb. 7. Biodiesel imports were at 158,044.1 metric tons for the month.
The 55,131.8 metric tons of biodiesel exported in December was up when compared to the 50,875.4 metric tons exported the previous month, but down when compared to the 65,041 metric tons exported in December 2022.
The U.S. exported biodiesel to approximately a half a dozen countries in December. Canda was the top destination for U.S. biodiesel export at 49,651.8 metric tons, followed by Peru at 4,806.7 metric tons and Singapore at 356.5 metric tons.

The value of U.S. biodiesel exports was at $94.79 million in December, up from $91.29 million in November, but down from $159.41 million December 2022.
Total U.S. biodiesel exports for 2023 reached 842,834.9 metric tons at a value of $1.5 billion, compared to 798,986.2 metric tons exported in 2022 at a value of $1.54 billion.
The 158,044.1 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 and greater imported in December was up when compared to both the 155,549.1 metric tons imported the previous month and the 99,128.5 metric tons imported in December 2022.
The U.S. imported biodiesel from approximately seven countries in December. Germany was the top source of U.S. biodiesel imports at 48,813.7 metric tons, followed by Spain at 44,641.5 metric tons and Canada at 40,025.6 metric tons.

The value of U.S. biodiesel imports reached $234.1 million in December, up from $228.02 million in November and $191.84 million in December 2022.
Total U.S. biodiesel imports for 2023 reached 1.7 million metric tons at a value of $2.8 billion, compared to 792,287.4 metric tons imported in 2022 at a value of $1.42 billion.

The U.S. Department of Commerce has disbanded an advisory committee that provided the agency with private sector advice aimed at boosting the competitiveness of U.S. renewable energy and energy efficiency exports, including ethanol and wood pellets.
The U.K. Trade Remedies Authority on March 17 announced it has initiated an anti-dumping investigation and a countervailing investigation into imports of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), commonly known as renewable diesel, from the U.S.
The Canada Boarder Services Agency on March 6 announced it is initiating investigations into alleged dumping and subsidizing of renewable diesel from the U.S. The announcement follows complaints filed by Tidewater Renewables Ltd. in 2024.

Lawmakers in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate on March 6 reintroduced legislation that aims to ensure that RINs generated for renewable fuel used by ocean-going vessels would be eligible for RFS compliance.
