USDA: US biodiesel imports fall drastically in January, biodiesel exports up slightly

The U.S. exported 27,421.8 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 or greater in January, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on March 6. Biodiesel imports were at 9,922.4 metric tons for the month.

The 27,421.8 metric tons of biodiesel exported in January was up from 19,303.6 metric tons exported the previous month and the 17,217.2 metric tons exported in January 2023. 

The U.S. exported biodiesel to approximately eight countries in January. Canada was the top destination for U.S. biodiesel exports at 23,712.8 metric tons, followed by Peru at 3,435.1 metric tons and Mexico at 74.2 metric tons.

The value of U.S. biodiesel exports reached $45.07 million in January, up from $19.58 million in December and $24.45 million in January of the previous year. 

The U.S. imported 9,922.4 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 or greater in January, down from 97,420.7 metric tons in December and 167,713.7 metric tons in January 2023.

The U.S. imported biodiesel form approximately eight countries in January. China was the top source of U.S. biodiesel imports at 5,307.2 metric tons, followed by Canada at 4,486.1 metric tons and Belgium-Luxembourg at 77.3 metric tons. 

The value of U.S. biodiesel imports fell to $10.44 million in January, down from $119.13 million the previous month and $243.91 million in January 2023.
