Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, indicated the biofuels industry represented a united front at recent White House meetings related to SREs but stressed he will not announce support for the resulting policy package until it is finalized on paper.
Walz signs executive order establishing biofuels council

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz signed an executive order Sept. 16 establishing a Governor's Council on Biofuels that will advise the governor and state agencies on the role of biofuels in reducing GHG emissions and recommend policies to foster growth.

Alberta Innovates is contributing $1.5 million to a project that will use municipal organic waste to replenish soil at at an Alberta coal mine to grow a willow crop that may be used as a biomass feedstock for renewable energy.
The U.S. EPA posted a notice to its websites Sept. 4 announcing a MOU with the Internal Revenue Service under which the agencies have agreed to share information in an effort to identify and respond to fraud related to renewable fuels.
The comment period of the U.S. EPA's proposed rule to set 2020 RVOs under the Renewable Fuel Standard, along with the 2021 RVO for biomass-based diesel closed Aug. 30. More than 5,600 comments were filed on the rulemaking.
