The U.S. Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office and National Renewable Energy Laboratory have announced the Phase 1 selections for the Waste-to-Energy Technical Assistance for Local Governments Program.
The government of British Columbia on July 2 announced it has amended its Greenhouse Gas Reduction Regulation to increase the production and use of renewable gas and green and waste hydrogen within the province.
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper on July 2 signed the North Carolina Farm Act of 2021. The legislation, in part, directs the North Carolina Environmental Management Commission to develop a new general permit for farms with digester systems.

The U.S. Department of Energy on July 7 announced $52.5 million to fund 31 projects to advance next-generation clean hydrogen technologies. Two of the funded projects focus specifically on the production of hydrogen from biobased feedstocks.

Xebec signs MSA for BGX Biostream units with dairy RNG developer

Xebec Adsorption Inc. announced on July 6 that it has signed a master service agreement (MSA) with a leading U.S.-based renewable natural gas (RNG) dairy farm project developer for the purchase of BGX Biostream units.
Renewables are expected to account for 21 percent of U.S. electricity generation this year, increasing to 23 percent in 2022, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration's latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, released July 7.
The Ontario government on July 5 announced it is changing its biogas regulations under the Nutrient Management Act to enable new on-farm biogas systems and expansions of existing systems to be approved more easily and at a lower cost.
Reps. Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa, and Angie Craig, D-Minn., on July 2 introduced the Small Refinery Exemption Clarification Act of 2021, which aims to clarify the definition of “extension� in response to the U.S. Supreme Court's June 25 ruling on SREs.

Brightmark breaks ground on 3 RNG projects in Michigan

Brightmark on June 30 broke ground on three renewable natural gas (RNG) projects in Michigan. The projects are owned by and will be operated through subsidiaries of Brightmark RNG Holdings LLC, a partnership with Chevron U.S.A. Inc.
Sens. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa; Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; John Thune, R-S.D.; Michael Rounds, R-S.D.; Ben Sasse, R-Neb.; and Deb Fischer, R-Neb., on June 30 sent a letter to President Biden urging him to resist calls from Big Oil to undercut the RFS.
Representatives of the biofuels industry on June 28 called the U.S. Supreme Court's June 25 decision on SREs a setback but stressed that that ruling should not significantly increase the number of SREs approved by the Biden Administration.

AgLand receives California tax credit to support RNG projects

AgLand Renewables LLC, the California subsidiary of CleanBay Renewables Inc., has been selected by the GO-Biz to receive $1.7 million in tax credit from the highly competitive California Competes Tax Credit program for its RNG projects.
The government of Canada on June 21 launched a C$1.5 billion Clean Fuels Fund with a call for proposals for projects that will increase the country's capacity to produce clean fuels, including ethanol, renewable diesel, SAF, RNG and others.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds on June 22 signed an executive order to establish a carbon sequestration task force. Stakeholders representing the ethanol, biodiesel and biogas industries have been named as initial members of the new task force.
Southwest Gas to source RNG from 5 projects

Peoples Gas, Alliance Dairies partner to bring Florida RNG

Peoples Gas, Florida's largest natural gas distribution utility, has reached an agreement with Alliance Dairies to build, own and operate a renewable natural gas (RNG) facility on the dairy's property in Trenton near Gainesville.
A group of 15 democratic lawmakers on June 16 sent a letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan and NEC Director Brian Deese expressing concern that the Biden administration is considering several options to exempt oil refineries from RFS obligations.
