Republic Services and energy partners Aria Energy and BP on Aug. 17 announced the startup of a landfill-gas-to-renewable-natural-gas (RNG) project at South Shelby Landfill. The facility can produce the equivalent of 33,250 gallons of gasoline daily.

Trump says he'll talk to EPA about RFS, SREs

EPA “reset” recommendation addresses RFS, LCFS

A group of six former U.S. EPA administrators are calling for a “reset� of the agency as it approaches its 50th anniversary. The RFS and a potential federal LCFS among the issues discussed in a report released on the effort.
U.S. EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler on Aug. 11 said work is ongoing to review gap year SRE waivers and issue a proposed rule to set 2021 RVOs under the RFS. He was unable, however, to specify when those tasks will be complete.

UIPA, Dominion Energy Utah announce cooperation agreement

The Utah Inland Port Authority and Dominion Energy Utah have signed a joint cooperation statement aimed at reducing air pollution and improving energy efficiency within the UIPA jurisdictional area, including through the use of RNG.
The U.S. Department of Energy on July 31 announced more than $97 million in funding for 33 projects that will support high-impact technology research and development to accelerate the bioeconomy, including biofuels, biopower and bioproducts.

OptiFuel to test preproduction RNG hybrid line-haul locomotive

OptiFuel Systems has announced it is in the process of finalizing a $2.6 million U.S. Department of Energy grant to demonstrate a pre-production renewable natural gas (RNG) hybrid 4,300 hp line-haul locomotive.
The DOE on July 28 announced $68 million in funding over five years for basic research aimed at making bioenergy feedstock crops more productive and resilient. Feedstocks addressed by the research include sorghum, poplar and pennycress.
The American Carbon Registry has opened a public comment period on Version 2.0 of its methodology for the generation of carbon offsets from landfill gas destruction and beneficial use projects. Comments can be filed on the methodology through Aug. 7.
Republic Services Inc. released an annual sustainability report on July 22 that highlights the company's renewable energy production and sets a goal to significantly increase the volume of biogas it sends to beneficial reuse by 2030.
