Aemetis Inc. announced April 12 that Universal Biofuels, the company’s India subsidiary, is producing glycerin at above nameplate capacity and demand for the product exceeds supply. The production capacity of the refined glycerin unit at the Kakinada plant is approximately 18,000 metric tons per year. The sale of glycerin is an important part of the company’s business strategy in India.

“Our glycerin refining facility in India is operating above nameplate capacity by importing crude glycerin from Argentina and other biodiesel production countries,” stated Eric McAfee, chairman and CEO of Aemetis.  “As our plant scales up biodiesel production using the new pretreatment unit, the refined glycerin production unit has grown to be an important source of consistent revenues and contribution margins supplying the production of consumer and paint products in India.”
