The Biotechnology Innovation Organization announced July 2 that Stephanie Batchelor has been named BIO’s vice president for its industrial & environmental (I&E) section.

“We have tremendous confidence in Stephanie’s abilities and leadership, having named her acting head of this section in April of this year, and we are thrilled that this appointment will be permanent,” said BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood. “Across our members and within the broader BIO team, Stephanie is widely regarded as a go-to team player and a passionate advocate for the biotechnology-driven innovations developed by the companies within BIO’s industrial & environmental section.”

Batchelor has worked for BIO in the I&E section since July 2008 when she was director of state and international policy. Most recently, serving as the I&E section’s managing director, Batchelor helped guide the section’s strategic vision as it adopts a more focused and coordinated approach for advocacy and communications.

During her tenure at BIO, Batchelor has created the Women in Industrial Biotech group, established and chaired the below50 USA chapter, secured renewable chemicals tax credits in three states, and participated on the advisory panel for the California low carbon fuel standard to ensure it was implemented in a way that incentivizes low carbon biofuels.

“Stephanie has been a vital member of the BIO team for several years,” said Hugh Welsh, president and general counsel of DSM North America and chair of BIO’s I&E section governing board. “As our industry continues to navigate a complex business and political environment, we are fortunate to have Stephanie helping to advance our sustainability goals and grow America’s bio-based economy.”

Before joining BIO, Batchelor worked with the European Economic and Social Committee and Women for Women International. Batchelor holds a master’s degree in international relations from New York University and a bachelor's degree in international politics and world history from the University at Albany, SUNY.
