Brazil's Ubrabio, RSB partner to promote sustainable biodiesel

The Brazilian Biodiesel and Biojetfuel Union (Ubrabio) and the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials have joined forces in discussions and decision-making processes to promote sustainability in Brazil’s biofuels and biomaterials production chain. As part of the agreement, Ubrabio is now a member of the RSB and will be part of its Chamber 7: Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs), governments, and research/academic institutions. RSB is also now a member of Ubrabio.
“For Ubrabio, certification is an important issue and should match Brazil's reality,” said Juan Diego Ferrés, president of Ubrabio. “This partnership with RSB reinforces our commitment to advances in social, environmental and economic aspects and Brazil’s biodiesel quality, whose usage is consolidated for the excellence of quality parameters that are more restrictive than even in the U.S. and European Union.”
“RSB sees Ubrabio as a key partner to promote sustainable production along the complete biodiesel supply chain,” said Rolf Hogan, RSB’s executive director. “The aviation sector in particular is insisting on biojet fuel produced to the highest environmental standards. By working with Ubrabio, we can make this a reality in Brazil.”

U.S. operatable biofuels capacity increased slightly in January, with gains for ethanol, according to the U.S. EIA’s Monthly Biofuels Capacity and Feedstock Update, released March 31. Feedstock consumption was down when compared to December.
