The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for June, reporting that both cellulosic biofuel and cellulosic diesel was produced during the month. The month marks the first time since April 2012 that D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated and the second time since November that D7 cellulosic RINs were generated.
A total of 73,271 D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated during the month, representing fuel production volume of 48,846 gallons. In addition, 32,728 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated, equating to 19,251 gallons of fuel. During the month, nearly 22.61 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINS, 44.97 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs and 1.11 billion D6 renewable fuels RINs were also generated.

Approximately 1.112 D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in June, with a total of 6.33 billion D6 RINs generated for ethanol since the beginning of the year. About 329,950 of D6 RINs were also generated for biodiesel during the first half of the year, along with 35 million RINs for non-ester renewable diesel.
During the first six months of 2012, nearly 221.63 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated for ethanol production, with an additional 3.9 million RINs for biogas. About 110.56 million D5 RINs were also generated for renewable diesel during the first half of the year.

The EPA data currently estimates there are a total of 46,460 assigned locked and 673.17 million assigned unlocked D6 renewable fuel RINs available, along with 208.25 million separated locked and 5.37 billion separated unlocked renewable RINs. The data also shows 10.53 million assigned unlocked advanced biofuel RINs and 197.09 million separated unlocked advanced biofuel RINs available. There are an additional 13.48 million assigned locked advanced biofuel RINs available, along with 15.8 million separated locked RINs. Among all five D-code categories, EPA data indicates there are 263.32 million locked RINs and 7.28 billion unlocked RINs available. Nearly 7.67 billion RINs have been generated in 2013, with 126.08 million retired.
