Chevron U.S.A. Inc. on May 15 filed a notice with the Iowa Workforce Development announcing plans to layoff 70 employees at its Ames, Iowa, location by June 18. The company’s Chevron Renewable Energy Group subsidiary is headquartered in Ames.

Chevron in mid-2022 completed its acquisition of biofuel producer Renewable Energy Group. The rebranded business segment, Chevron Renewable Energy Group, remained headquartered in Ames.

Chevron REG’s headquarters in Ame is home to the company’s leadership team, accounting, banking and finance, corporate affairs, customer service, engineering, human resources, legal, manufacturing, global sourcing, sales and marketing, tax, training, and transportation departments. The company currently owns 11 U.S. biorefineries located in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Louisiana, Washington, Texas and Wisconsin.

Under Iowa law, certain companies are required to notify state authorities regarding planned workforce reductions.

“Chevron is taking action to simplify our operating model, execute work faster and more effectively, and position the company for long-term competitiveness,” said a Chevron spokesperson. “As previously announced, we expect these efforts to result in workforce reductions in 2025. This is a difficult decision, and we do not make it lightly.

“As required by the WARN Act, Chevron has provided notice of a planned workforce reduction to appropriate state and local government representatives in impacted geographies.

“We understand the impact this news may have on our employees, their families and the communities where we operate. Our priority is to support our employees through this transition.  We are offering severance benefits and outplacement support.”
