International buyers for distillers grains are making plans to attend Export Exchange 2014 scheduled for Oct. 20-22 in Seattle, Washington. About 180 international buyers from more than 30 countries are expected to attend, along with 300 U.S. suppliers and agribusiness representatives. The event is put on by the U.S. Grains Council and the Renewable Fuels Association.
The Export Exchange is held every two years to expand and develop export markets, focusing on ethanol coproducts, including DDGS, along with U.S. coarse grains. Participants include many of the largest importers of U.S. coarse grains and ethanol coproducts, primarily coming from Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Speakers at this year’s event include USGC Chairman Ron Gray and RFA President and CEO Bob Dinneen. Harold Tilstra, Purina Animal Nutrition LLC, will speak about the evolving DDGS and Geoff Cooper, senior vice president, RFA, will address DDGS supply and demand. ProExporter principal Marty Ruikka will address the coarse grains outlook for 2020 and beyond. Others speakers will talk about corn gluten feed and meal, barley and sorghum, along with a global financial outlook.
“Export Exchange gives our international attendees the chance to meet with people they already know and have been doing business with and a chance to meet the new, additional suppliers,” said Cary Sifferath, USGC regional director of the Middle East and North Africa. “Some companies in the region have been buying U.S. corn or DDGS on a long-term basis. For some of the others, Export Exchange gives them a chance to get introduced to new suppliers in the United States.”

As demand for poultry, dairy and other food products expands, imports of feed grains are needed to grow the countries’ livestock industries. Political stabilization in many countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Morocco, has also led to increasing imports. Over the last year, U.S. corn imports into the Middle East and North Africa have rebounded. More than 4.2 million metric tons (163.8 million bushels) of U.S. corn have been sold to the region in the 2013-‘14 marketing year, while only 274,000 tons (10.8 million bushels) were sold in 2012-‘13.
