Deadline for NCGA student video competition nears

The deadline for the National Corn Growers Association “Ethanol Rocks” video contest is fast approaching. The competition, which is open to all active high school and college students, invites either individuals or student teams to produce a video that promotes the benefits of ethanol. According to the NCGA, separate awards will be given to high school and college entrants. The first place award for is a $1,500 prize. The award for second place in each category is $500. All applications must be received by the NCGA by close of business Oct. 15.

Information published by the NCGA notes that videos should be two minutes or less in length. Videos containing copyrighted material, including copyrighted music and graphics, are not eligible. In addition, each eligible video must contain at least four facts about ethanol. The videos must also be appropriate for viewing by all ages.

Judging of the videos will be based on a variety of criteria, including creativity, impact, design and editing, and general appeal. Winning videos become the sole property of the NCGA.

To enter the contest, the student or student group must submit a written application to the NGCA via email, fax or mail. The videos must be uploaded to YouTube prior to the application submittal. According to the NCGA, entrants are also encouraged to submit a brief summary of the project, including background information related to the video. This can include a description of how a team was formed, the role of a teacher in supporting the project, identification as a classroom assignment, or any interesting facts that were learned during the video production process.
