The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy has announced plans to host a webinar on biofuel sustainability on April 22, titled “Biofuels for the Environment and Communities.”
According to the DOE, Virginia Dale from Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Cristina Negri from Argonne National Laboratory will discuss their EERE-sponsored research on how to develop biofuels that positively impact the environmental, socioeconomic, and technoeconomic sustainability of biofuel development in the U.S.
Dale is a corporate fellow in the landscape ecology and regional analysis group of ORNL’s Environmental Sciences Division. She is also an adjunct professor in the University of Tennessee’s Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. According to ORNL, Dale’s primary research interests are in landscape design for bioenergy, environmental decision making, land-use change, landscape ecology and ecological modeling. Negri is a principle agronomist of resource management at Argonne and leads the phytotechnologies research and development technologies at the laboratory. According to Argonne, her interests also focus on input-efficient approaches to growing energy crops, water efficiency in growing biofuel crops, and on the advanced treatment and reuse of wastewater and other impaired water. In addition, she currently leads Argonne’s Women in Science and Technology Program.
