The U.S. Energy Information Administration has published the March edition of its Monthly Energy Review, which features final 2013 data for ethanol production, imports and consumption.
The U.S. produced 1.24 billion gallons of ethanol in December 2013, up from 1.07 billion gallons during the same month of 2012. According to the EIA, more than 13.31 billion gallons of ethanol was produced in 2013, up from nearly 13.22 in 2013. Last year’s production, however, was still below the 2011 production level of 13.93 billion gallons.
EIA data shows net ethanol imports were -1.24 million barrels in December, compared to -79,000 barrels during the same month of 2012. The net import level for 2013 was -7.51 million barrels, compared to -5.89 million barrels in 2012. In 2011, the net import level was -24.37 million barrels.
U.S. ethanol consumption continued its increase last year. Nearly 1.14 billion gallons of ethanol were consumed in December, up from 1.06 billion gallons during the final month of 2012. Full year 2013 consumption reached 13.18 billion gallons, up from 12.88 billion gallons in 2012 and 12.89 billion gallons in 2011.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration maintained its forecast for 2025 and 2026 biodiesel, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, released July 8.
XCF Global Inc. on July 10 shared its strategic plan to invest close to $1 billion in developing a network of SAF production facilities, expanding its U.S. footprint, and advancing its international growth strategy.
U.S. fuel ethanol capacity fell slightly in April, while biodiesel and renewable diesel capacity held steady, according to data released by the U.S. EIA on June 30. Feedstock consumption was down when compared to the previous month.
XCF Global Inc. on July 8 provided a production update on its flagship New Rise Reno facility, underscoring that the plant has successfully produced SAF, renewable diesel, and renewable naphtha during its initial ramp-up.
The U.S. exported 31,160.5 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 and greater in May, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on July 3. Biodiesel imports were 2,226.2 metric tons for the month.
