EIA releases monthly ethanol production, consumption statistics

The U.S. Energy Information Administration has released the February issue of its Monthly Energy Review, which includes ethanol production, use and export data through Nov. 2012.

During the first 11 months of 2012, the U.S. produced 12.209 billion gallons of ethanol, a slight decrease when compared to the 12.681 billion gallons produced during the same period of 2011. However, production was an increase over the 12.103 billion gallons produced during the first 11 months of 2010.

On a monthly basis, production was down slightly in November. During October, the U.S. produced 1.065 billion gallons of ethanol, dropping to 1.058 billion gallons in November.

Net imports for the first 11 months of 2012 equated to -5.923 million barrels. The comparable net import levels for the first 11 months of 2011 and 2012 were a relative -21.368 million barrels and -7.405 million barrels. According to the EIA, the U.S. posted net imports of 997,000 barrels in November, compared to 609,000 barrels in October.

The U.S. marketplace consumed 1.041 billion gallons of ethanol in November, a slight decrease compared to the 1.041 billion gallons consumed one month prior. During the first 11 months of 2012, the U.S. consumed 11.88 billion gallons of ethanol, an increase over the 11.768 billion gallons consumed during the same period of 2011.
