The latest fuel ethanol statistics released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration show that ethanol production for August was down only slightly compared to production levels for the same period of 2011 and 2010. The statistics are published as part of the EIA&rsquo;s Monthly Energy Review.
In August, the U.S. produced 1.1 billion gallons of fuel ethanol, a slight increase over the 1.064 billion gallons reported in July. In comparison, a relative 1.175 billion gallons and 1.132 billion gallons were produced during the same month in 2011 and 2010.
During the first eight months of the year, the U.S. ethanol industry produced 9.057 billion gallons. During the same period of 2011, the industry produced 9.196 billion gallons. In 2010, production was reported at 8.682 billion gallons.
The EIA reported that net imports for August of 654,000 barrels, a significant increase over the -502,000 barrels of imports reported in July. In August 2011, the administration reported net imports of -665,000 barrels. During the first eight months of the year, the U.S. reported -8.223 million barrels of imports. The relative import levels for the same period of 2011 and 2010 were a relative -14.324 million barrels and -4.728 million barrels.
The U.S. marketplace consumed 1.17 billion gallons of ethanol in August, a slight increase from the 1.088 billion gallons consumed in July. Consumption for the first eight months of the year increased compared to the same periods of 2011 and 2010. During the first eight months of this year, the EIA reported consumption of 8.665 billion gallons. The relative consumption levels for 2011 and 2010 were 8.568 billion gallons and 8.451 billion gallons.&nbsp;
