For the tenth consecutive year, the Renewable Fuels Association is partnering with the Buffalo Chip Campground to host the 78th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, scheduled for Aug. 3-12 in Sturgis, South Dakota. The event will also be the first time the motorcycling community will have a chance to view the custom RFA ethanol bike designed by Paul Jr. Designs and featured on a recent episode of “American Chopper.”

The Sturgis rally offers a unique opportunity to promote the benefits of high-octane, low-cost ethanol to the motorcycling community.

“A hallmark of the RFA has been its decades-long commitment to fuel choice and consumer education. We can promote ethanol power, ethanol performance, ethanol cost savings, and have fun doing it,” said RFA President and CEO Bob Dinneen.

RFA will also sponsor the 11th annual Legends Ride on Aug. 6, with RFA Vice President of Industry Relations Robert White participating and Paul Teutul Jr. as the ride captain. Additionally, the RFA motorcycle will be on display during a reception at the Buffalo Chip Event Center on Aug. 5, from 4pm-6:30pm MT. White will also be speaking at the event.

As in previous years, RFA will again host Free Fuel Happy Hours at the rally, providing a free tank of 93 octane E10 (10 percent ethanol) for motorcycles and a ceremonial t-shirt. The free tank giveaway will be held Aug. 7-9, from 1-4pm MT each day at the Buffalo Chip Campground. RFA will also have a presence throughout the campground with banners, commercials on the jumbotrons, and addressing the concert crowd each night.

White, a rally veteran, will be on hand during the Free Fuel Happy Hours to answer any questions as motorcycle riders fill up on the high-octane fuel. Additionally, several RFA members will be in attendance to help educate riders about the numerous benefits of ethanol.

“For a decade, I have attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and it has proven to be an excellent venue to educate consumers,” said White. “This year is special because it will mark the public debut of the custom E85 (85 percent ethanol) motorcycle from Paul Jr. Designs. It’s a definite conversation starter and part of RFA’s recently launched Fuel Your Knowledge campaign, to help engage with groups that have expressed reservations about the use of ethanol. E10 is approved by every motorcycle manufacturer, and we want to make sure riders understand what fuels are safe and legal in their motorcycle, and assure them that E10 will be available in the future to meet their motorcycle needs.”

The action begins on Aug. 5. Follow Robert White on Twitter at @fuelinggood for live updates.
