U.S. ethanol exports recovered in July 2015, rising nearly 30 percent from the previous month to 77.2 million gallons, according to a Renewable Fuels Association analysis of the most recently available government data.

The U.S. was a net exporter of fuel ethanol in July 2015. During the first seven months of 2015 ethanol exports were 514.5 million gallons. If exports continue on pace, the United States will export 882 million gallons of fuel this year, estimated Ann Lewis, RFA research analyst. Last year, the United States exported 836 million gallons of ethanol valued at $2.1 billion.

The 28 percent increase in July 2015 exports comes after a two-month decline. The majority of the exports were to:

-          Canada: 23.3 million gallons, a 30 percent increase.

-          South Korea: 11.3 million gallons, a 15 percent increase.

-          India: 8.5 million gallons, an 11 percent increase.

-          China: 7.6 million gallons.

-          Peru: 6.3 million gallons.

In July 2015, the United States also exported 5.4 million gallons of ethanol to Brazil, which had not imported U.S. ethanol in June, the RFA report said. On the flip side, the United Arab Emirates, which had accounted for one-fifth of demand in June 2015, did not import U.S. ethanol in July.

Imports of ethanol to the United States were negligible in July 2015, with 512 gallons of denatured product coming into the country from Canada. Total U.S. ethanol imports through July 2015 were 17.1 million gallons, an average of 2.4 million gallons per month, the RFA said. July was the 23rd straight month the United States was a net exporter, with export volumes reaching a four-month high.

In July 2015, the United States exported 46.9 million gallons of undenatured ethanol for fuel use, nearly four times more than the 13.4 million gallons it exported in June. The bulk of the exports were to South Korea, with 11.2 million gallons, the Philippines with 8.7 million gallons and India, with 8.5 million gallons. The increases were 15 percent, 11 percent and 11 percent, respectively.

At the same time, July 2015 U.S. exports of denatured ethanol fuel dropped by 40 percent to 26.4 million gallons. Canada led imports of U.S. denatured ethanol with 20.2 million gallons.

Exports of distillers dried grain with solubles, meanwhile, rose in July for the sixth straight month, to 1.4 million metric tons, the RFA analysis showed. That’s an increase of 5 percent from the previous record high which was set in June.
