USDA: US biodiesel exports significantly lower than imports in October

The U.S. exported 63,518.4 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 and greater in October, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on Dec. 6. Biodiesel imports were at 165,390.1 metric tons for the month. 

The 63,518.4 metric tons of biodiesel exported in October was up when compared to the 57,739.5 metric tons exported during the previous month, but down when compared to the 65,978.7 metric tons exported during October 2022. 

The U.S. exported biodiesel to approximately seven countries in October. Canada was the top destination for U.S. biodiesel exports at 58,647.3 metric tons, followed by Peru at 4,771.6 metric tons and Norway at 35.1 metric tons.

The value of U.S. biodiesel exports was at $116.57 million in October, up from $102.9 million in September, but down from $141.91 million in October of last year. 

Total biodiesel exports for the first 10 months of 2023 reached 736,827.7 metric tons at a value of $1.32 billion, compared to 702,813.1 metric tons exported during the same period of last year at a value of $1.32 billion. 

The 165,390.1 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 and greater imported during October was down when compared to the 183,451.7 metric tons imported the previous month but up from the 62,407.4 metric tons imported in October 2022. 

The U.S. imported biodiesel from approximately eight countries in October. Spain was the top supplier of U.S. biodiesel imports at 43,612.6 metric tons, followed by Germany at 47,813.6 metric tons and Canada at 39,746 metric tons.

The value of U.S. biodiesel imports was at $251.06 million in October, down from $300.51 million in September, but up from $124.93 million in October of last year. 

Total biodiesel imports for the first 10 months of 2023 reached 1.39 million metric tons at a value of $2.34 billion, compared to 574,467.9 metric tons imported during the same period of 2022 at a value of $998.41 million.
