The U.S. EPA has posted call-in information for its July 31 hearing on the proposed rule to set 2020 renewable volume obligations (RVOs) and the 2021 RVO for biomass-based diesel under the Renewable Fuel Standard.
The Department of Energy has confirmed at least one instance in which the EPA approved a SRE application despite DOE analysis that determined the refinery faced no disproportionate economic hardship due to compliance with its RFS obligations.
More than 1.67 billion RINs, including 37.05 million cellulosic RINs, were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in June, according to new data released by the U.S. EPA. RIN generation for the first half of the year reached nearly 9.64 billion.

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has announced the opening of its newest natural gas fueling station in Hunts Point—the first station in New York City to exclusively offer renewable natural gas (RNG) for medium- and heavy-duty vehicle fleets.

Data released by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission July 5 shows that the U.S. could add up to 61 biomass generation units with a combined capacity of 624 MW by June 2022. The U.S. currently has 16.04 GW of bioenergy capacity in place.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration has released the July edition of its Short-Term Energy Outlook, predicting nonhydropower renewables will provide 11 percent of utility-scale generation this year, increasing to 13 percent next year.

The U.S. EPA released proposed 2020 RFS RVOs on July 5. More than 11 years have passed since Congress included electricity from renewable feedstocks as a qualifying fuel in the program, and yet again EPA has ignored electricity in its rulemaking.
The U.S. EPA has proposed to require 20.04 billion gallons of renewable fuels to be blended into the U.S. fuel supply next year, up from 19.92 billion gallons in 2019, according to a rulemaking released by the agency July 5.
