The sulfur limit for FAME is 15 ppm. Using the ASTM D5453 test method, the BIB plant with high-vacuum distillation resulted in a mere 0.9 ppm sulfur. Total glycerin content using test method D6584 was 0.011 percent, well under the 0.240 percent max.
Intertek announced it has been granted BQ-9000 certification by the NBAC. The Intertek biofuels laboratory in Romeoville, Ill., is listed as a testing facility on the BQ-9000 website and is a preferred lab for BQ-9000 producers and marketers.
An ASTM method that provides a fast, easy-to-use and inexpensive infrared method for measuring FAME content in diesel fuel is now in the process of full committee voting. Wilks Enterprise says it should be approved and accepted by the end of 2013.

California-based Community Fuels, which operates a 13 MMgy biodiesel refinery in the Port of Stockton, recently earned BQ-9000 Laboratory certification, making it the first biodiesel producer in the nation to receive this third-party approval.
