Gov. Bobby Jindal and Methanex VP Gary Rowan announced Methanex Corp. will relocate a second methanol plant from Chile to a 225-acre site in Geismar, La. In July 2012, Methanex announced it was moving a separate plant from Chile to Ascension Parish.

Today, obligatory and voluntary ethanol and biodiesel blending mandates are set in more than 40 countries. At the same time, supply-oriented policies (e.g., RFS in U.S., RED in EU) call for rapid acceleration in the production of advanced biofuels.
EPA said Friday that 77.6 million gallons of biodiesel was produced in February. With February's numbers, YTD biodiesel production stands at just under 150 million gallons. Last year the U.S. biodiesel industry produced more than 1 billion gallons.
Neste Oil successfully tested tall oil pitch in commercial refinery operations in March and April and states it is now ready to use the material on a continuous basis. It has also begun a program to help prevent deforestation with The Forest Trust.
