Biomass Technology Group is setting up a new technology company for converting crude pyrolysis oil into diesel fuel suitable for the shipping sector. It will be the first refinery in the world for an advanced marine biofuel based on pyrolysis oil.
Neste and the German BMT Bunker und Mineralöltransport GmbH signed a partner agreement concerning distribution and sales of Neste Marine 0.5. The fuel contains only 0.5 percent sulfur and became available in Bremerhaven, Germany, in early November.

The Biodiesel Production Technology Summit will take place in Minneapolis June 15-17, 2020. Organized by BBI International and produced by Biodiesel Magazine, the event is a new forum for biomass-based diesel producers. Abstracts are being accepted.
Biodiesel marketer and distributor Targray has opened a new biodiesel terminal in Antwerp, Belgium. Targray began taking orders at the new terminal in the third quarter and supplies commercial volumes of biodiesel from a variety of feedstocks.
Within the All-Gas Project of Europe's 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, BDI-BioEnergy International demonstrates algae oil extraction, characterization and conversion to biodiesel using its RepCat process.
Operations have begun at Eni's renewable diesel plant in Gela, Italy, converted from an oil refinery. The plant has the capacity to process up to 750,000 metric tons a year and uses Ecofining technology developed jointly by Eni and Honeywell's UOP.
Registration is open until Oct. 11 for biodiesel antioxidant no-harm testing through Germany's AGQM. Two test procedures were developed, one for biodiesel used as a diesel fuel component and the other for biodiesel to be blended into heating oil.
Wholesale prices for biodiesel have seen a sharp rise since Aug. 14, from 70.5 euro cents per liter ($2.95 per gallon) in mid-August to recently 91.6 euro cents per liter ($3.82 per gallon). This translates to an approximately 30 percent increase.

Germany's biodiesel quality management association AGQM has launched a new no-harm test for cold flow improvers for use in biodiesel as a blend component in fuel. The no-harm test for cold flow improvers consists of testing B100 and a blended B10.
The U.K.'s Serious Fraud Office confirmed the opening of a joint investigation with Dutch authorities regarding certain aspects of biodiesel trading at Greenergy and various third parties. Five sites were searched and four people were arrested.

Ethanol consumption increased 2.6 percent, from 753 million liters in 2017 to 773 million liters in 2018. Biodiesel consumption increased by 65 percent, from 697 million liters in 2017 to 1.152 billion liters in 2018—a new record high.
